Team USA’s submission to the Jon Olsson Super Sessions Invitational Film and Photo Contest. Long story short, 6 teams of 5 spend two weeks in Sweden/Norway with the one and only objective: make the best 5 minute ski video possible. Easily the most anticipated video of the contest, Team USA finished dead last, but won “Crowd Favorite,” exactly as they had planned. This video is the result of 14 days, spent in 2 countries, writing, singing, recording, shooting, editing, skiing and laughing.
The intro to the video is a bit of an inside joke. Last years winner Sammy Carlson was unable to make it to the contest in Scandinavia this year, and Colby West was able to enter the contest as an alternate. We shot this as a tribute to the intro of the SNL classic “I’m on a Boat,” but in our version Sammy (voice by Colby) calls to tell Colby that he cant make it, and that he can take his spot in the contest. Colby soon realizes he must then chose a partner. The joke that stands as the basis for our video and the song itself, is the idea that John felt that he did not deserve to compete in a contest featuring the best skiers in the world, yet he was permitted to go, because he’s ‘friends with a pro.’ Hope you enjoy the video, it wasn’t pretty, but it a lot of fun to produce.
